PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) was named ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, September 30. For Newman, it marked the second honor he earned this week. On Monday, he was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Newman received the honors for his stellar play in the Friars' two BIG EAST wins last week.

On Wednesday, September 24, Newman made six saves in a 1-0 win at West Virginia. In the team's second game last week, he registered six stops in a 1-0 victory against 17th-ranked Seton Hall on September 27. Newman became the first goalkeeper in Friar history to post back-to-back shutouts in consecutive BIG EAST games. For the season, Newman has posted a 4-4 record, a 1.38 goals against average and a .792 save percentage.

Newman, the son of Brad and Bonnie Newman, graduated from Algonquin Regional High School prior to attending Providence College.
