PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced today that Providence College men's soccer goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) was selected in the third round (29th overall) by the Kansas City Wizards in the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft. The Supplemental Draft includes all the players who were not selected in the SuperDraft, which took place on Friday, January 12.

In four seasons at Providence College, Konopka played in 49 career games, which is tied for third all-time at the College. He totalled 12 career shutouts, a 1.17 goals against average and a .777 save percentage. In addition, he set a school mark with 2020:38 minutes played in goal during the 2005 season.

Konopka, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, posted a 0.94 goals against average, a .787 save percentage and six shutouts in 17 matches with the Friars in 2006. He played a key role on the Friar squad this season, leading the team to a 13-7 record, one win shy of tying a school record for most victories in one season. In addition, the Friars made school history when they earned their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth for the first time ever. PC also set a school record with seven BIG EAST Conference wins and advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals for the third time in four years.
