Notre Dame defeated Providence College, 2-0, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, October 24.

Notre Dame's freshman midfielder Kevin Goldthwaite (Sacramento, Calif.) scored in the 59th minute off an assist from sophomore back Kevin Richards (Warwick, Bermuda) to lift the Fighting Irish to their sixth straight win. Notre Dame added another goal in the 67th minute when junior forward Erich Braun (Frankfurt, Germany) converted a pass from sophomore midfielder Justin Detter (White Lake, Mich.) for his 11th goal of the season.

Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Sawyer (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) registered four saves for the Fighting Irish. Friar senior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded five stops in the loss.

With the win, Notre Dame improved to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 0-11-2 overall and 0-7 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Sunday, October 28 at Rutgers at 1:00 p.m.
