Men's Soccer Defeated By No. 13 Notre Dame, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by No. 13 Notre Dame, 2-0, in BIG EAST action on Wednesday, October 22 at Providence, R.I. It marked the first loss at home this season for the Friars, ending their streak of four consecutive games without a loss at Glay Field.
Notre Dame made the most of its first opportunity to score as the Fighting Irish scored off a corner just 1:40 into the game. Kevin Goldthwaite took the corner for Notre Dame and Greg Martin headed the ball past Friar goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) to give the Fighting Irish the lead. In the final 43 minutes of the half, Providence had several opportunities to score, but could not register the tying goal.
Devon Prescod added an insurance goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game when he scored on a partial breakaway to seal the win for Notre Dame.
Notre Dame goalkeeper Chris Sawyer registered three saves while recording the shutout. Newman made eight saves in the loss.
With the win, Notre Dame improved to 9-3-3 overall and 4-3-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 6-6-2 overall and 4-3-1 in league play.
