VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Villanova defeated Providence College, 3-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Saturday, October 13 in Villanova, Pa. Sophomore Colin Raws (Haverford, Pa.) led the Wildcats with two goals and one assist in the win.

After a scoreless first half, Providence netted the first goal of the game at 65:53 when junior Todd Stigliano (Newington, Conn.) kicked in a rebound from 15 yards in front of the net. However, the Wildcats rebounded with three consecutive goals in the last 17 minutes of the game. Raws tied the score at 1-1 at 72:55 as he chipped in a shot past Friar junior goalkeeper Michael Greulich (Cincinnati, Ohio). Raws gave Villanova the lead when he scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 78:05. Senior Tony Rod (Philadelphia, Pa.) closed out the scoring with an insurance goal for the Wildcats at the 88:34 mark.

Villanova junior goalkeeper Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) made seven saves in the win. Greulich recorded four stops for PC.

With the victory, Villanova raised its record to 3-7-0 overall and 2-5-0 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 0-8-2 overall and 0-4 in league action.

Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, October 17 against Boston College at Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 3:00 p.m.
