Men's Soccer Defeated By No. 7 St. John's, 3-1

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- The seventh-ranked St. John's Red Storm defeated the Providence College men's soccer team, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, October 11 at Jamaica, N.Y. The Friars entered halftime tied 1-1 with the Red Storm, but could not hold off St. John's offense in the second half as it scored two goals in the final 45 minutes to earn the win. St. John's tallied the first goal of the game when Chris Wingert converted on a penalty kick at 5:14. Providence tied the game at 1-1 when sophomore Ian Wexler (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored on a header at 27:48. Chris Corcoran registered what would prove to be the game-winning goal for St. John's at 49:38 as he scored on a tap in from 10 yards out. Ashley Kozicki registered an insurance goal for St. John's at 63:08. Friar junior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made seven saves in the loss. With the win, St. John's improved to 9-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 5-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. Providence College returns to action on Saturday, October 11 at St. John's at 7:30 p.m. at Jamaica, N.Y.
