PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Former Providence College men's lacrosse player Ben Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) played for the Friars from 2001 through 2004. During his tenure on the team, he was a two-time Team Captain and recipient of the program's Mark C. Cordon Heart & Soul Award. He also was a member of the College's R.O.T.C. program, and upon graduating from Providence, he was commissioned, and since then has been sent to Iraq to serve his country. Brown is a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

On October 21, a story was published in the Providence Journal by Mark Patinkin, regarding a local soldier, Bernie Teich, who was critically injured when a bomb was detonated beneath his Bradley. After the explosion, Brown and others were credited with saving Teich from the wreckage. The article may be accessed by clicking on the link below. Brown also appeared on CNN with Jim Clancy on October 29 to talk about the incident.
