PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior goalkeeper Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on May 1. It marks the third time this season that Littell has earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition.

Last week, Littell backstopped the Friars to a 2-0 record in between the pipes. In two games, he played 118:35 minutes in goal and posted a 4.55 goals against average and a 0.710 save percentage. He faced a total of 57 shots on the week, made 22 saves and allowed just nine goals.

Littell finished the regular-season schedule with a 7.36 goals against average and a 0.602 save percentage. In 13 appearances this season, he posted an 8-5 overall record (6-2 MAAC). He also ranks second among his teammates in groundballs this season (40).

Providence (8-6) will enter the 2006 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Friars captured a share of the MAAC Regular-Season title for the third time since joining the league in 1996. The Friars will face No. 4 seed Marist in the semifinals on Friday, May 5 at 4:00 p.m. Mount St. Mary's is the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will face No. 3 seed Canisius at 6:30 p.m. on May 5. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the MAAC Championship game on Sunday, May 7. The 2006 MAAC Tournament is scheduled to be held at the Demske Sports Complex at Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y. The winner of the MAAC Tournament title will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.
