EDISON, N.J. - Senior midfielder Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, for the week ending April 14, 2002. The announcement was made by the MAAC office on Monday, April 15. It is the first time in Ojakian's career that he has earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Last season, Ojakian became the first Providence College men's lacrosse player to be named to the All-MAAC First Team.

Last week, Ojakian registered eight points on four goals and four assists in a 17-9 win at St. Joseph's, in MAAC action on April 13. Ojakian currently leads the Friars in overall scoring (45 points) and assists (31), and is fourth on the team in goals scored (14). In just two seasons with the Providence men's lacrosse team, he has recorded 92 career points on 22 goals and 70 assists. Ojakian needs just eight points to reach the 100-point plateu for his career, joining fellow senior teammate Chris Houston (Garden City, N.Y.) as the only active players at Providence with 100 or more career points. Houston earned his 100th career point on April 6, 2002 versus Canisius.

The Friars are 7-4 overall, and hold a 4-1 record in MAAC action. Providence was picked to finish third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on March 13. The Friars are ranked second in the latest conference standings, released April 15, 2002. PC will host Holy Cross on Wednesday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m. Providence will resume MAAC play on Saturday, April 20 when they host Manhattan at 2:00 p.m. Both games are scheduled to be played at Glay Field on the campus of Providence College.
