PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Brown , 13-7, in non-conference action, on Wednesday, April 24, at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars were led by junior Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) and senior Kyle Ojakian (Cheshire, Conn.) who scored two goals each in the effort. Brown senior attackman Jimmy Mormile scored a game-high six goals to lead the Bears, who improve to 6-6 overall.

Brown took a 1-0 lead with 7:18 remaining in the first quarter on an unassisted goal from Mormile. The Bears' Ryan Culligan made the score 2-0 off an assist from Chas Gessner 45-seconds later (6:33). Mormile struck again, unassisted, at the 5:34 mark of the opening quarter to take a 3-0 lead. PC's Ojakian registered a goal with 3:58 remaining in the quarter off of an assist from junior Skip Dunphy (Manhasett, N.Y.), to make the score 3-1.

In the second quarter, PC freshman Dan Giuntini (Flora Park, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal with 14:19 on the clock, making the score 3-2. The Bears answered just 27-seconds later to regain their two-goal lead on another unassisted goal from Mormile. Brown went on to score three-straight goals to take a 7-2 advantage. Two of those goals were credited to Brian Miller (12:35, 11:34), while Mormile connected on his fourth goal of the game with 6:07 remaining in the first half. The Friars closed the quarter with an unassisted goal from Meehan at the 2:13 mark, and went into halftime at a 7-3 disadvantage.

PC's Dunphy tallied an unassisted goal to start the second half with 13:38 showing on the clock, and cut the lead to three goals (7-4). Brown then rattled off three unanswered goals to finish the third quarter scoring and head into the final quarter with a 10-4 lead. Miller connected at the 13-minute mark off an assist from Gessner. Gessner scored from Michael Hughes with 9:33 remaining, and Mormile finished the run at the 4:57 mark, unassisted.

In the fourth quarter, PC's Kevin Kornobis (Merrick, N.Y.) cut Brown's lead to five goals off an assist from freshman David Krasnica (Mendham, N.J.). Meehan made the score 10-6 off an assist from Giuntini with 11:43 remaining in the game. Brown's Culligan pushed the score to 11-6 off another assist from Gessner at the 9:29 mark. The Friars scored their seventh and final goal of the game as Ojakian connected, unassisted, with 5:14 remaining to play. Mormile and Culligan closed the game out with one goal apiece, at 3:44 and 37-seconds, respectively. Culligan's goal was assisted by Charles Towers.

Senior goaltender John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) made a season-high 18 saves for Providence. Mike Levin took in 13 saves for Brown.

Providence falls to 8-6 overall and will finish the regular-season schedule on Saturday, April 27 against MAAC opponent Mount St. Mary's. The game is scheduled to be played at Glay Field, and will begin at 1:00 p.m.
