BRANFORD, CONN. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team started the 2005 season with a 9-2 loss to No. 4 Navy on Saturday, February 19, 2005 in Branford, Conn. Navy's Steve Looney scored a career-best five goals to lead Navy. Senior Dan Giuntini (Floral Park, N.Y.) tallied both Friar goals.

The story of the game was Navy's defense. The Mids held the Friars to just 14 shots. Providence also cleared just 13-of-27 attempts and was 5-of-15 on face-offs. Navy also held the advantage in groundballs, 32-18.

Providence was able to stay in the game thanks to a standout goaltending performance by Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.). The senior made 11 saves for the Friars, and as a team, three goalies combined to stop 17 Navy shots. Navy outshot Providence, 51-14, on the day. Matt Russell stopped six shots in the cage for Navy.

With his two goals, Giuntini moved into a tie for 12th all-time at PC in career goals with 66.

Providence (0-1) returns to action on Wednesday, February 23 against Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. The game will be played in Worcester, Mass.
