PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Providence College men's hockey player and current Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Anaheim Ducks, Brian Burke, led his team to its first ever NHL Stanley Cup championship on June 7. Anaheim won the best-of-seven series against the Ottawa Senators (four-games-to-one) and became the first West Coast team to capture the Stanley Cup.

Burke, who played in 112 games at PC from 1973-77, became the second former Friar (while serving as a general manager) to help an NHL team capture the Stanley Cup title. Lou Lamoriello `63, who was a player, head coach and athletic director at PC and is the current CEO/President and General Manager of the New Jersey Devils, has guided his team to three Stanley Cup crowns.
