Men's Hockey Announces the Signing of Six Student-Athletes
Jan. 12, 2007 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Hockey Coach Tim Army announced on Friday, January 12 that student athletes Kyle Mackinnon (Walnut, Calif.), Jordan Kremyr (Cloverdale, B.C.), Austin Mayer (Providence, R.I.), Eric Baier (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Joe Lavin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2007. Ian O'Connor (Londonderry, N.H.) also has committed to attend Providence College. Mackinnon is a 6-foot, 185-pound center, who plays for the Langley Chiefs of the British Columbia Hockey League. He currently ranks second in the league in scoring with 72 points on 25 goals and 47 assists in 43 games. In addition, he has tallied 14 power-play goals, four short-handed goals and one game winner. He is tied for third in the league with the four short-handed tallies. Kremyr is in his fourth season in the BCHL and his third with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. The 6-foot, 185-pound left wing ranks 10th in the league in scoring as he has totaled 59 points on 24 goals and 35 assists. He also has eight power-play goals and three short-handed tallies. Mayer is one of two signees from Rhode Island. The Providence native is a 6-foot, 190-pound left wing who currently plays for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the Eastern Junior Hockey League. Prior to the Junior Monarchs, Mayer played two seasons for the Foxboro Stars of the EJHL when he committed to Providence College. He has tallied seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points in 25 games. Four of his seven goals have been game winners. Baier also hails from the Ocean State. The North Kingstown native played at the Taft School for three years when he signed with PC and then he moved on to play for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the EJHL. The 6-foot-2 inch, 195 pound defenseman and younger brother of Brown University defenseman, Paul Baier, has played in 29 games and has recorded six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. He has two power-play tallies and two game winners.
Lavin is the first member of the United States National Under-18 Team to ever sign with Providence College. The National Under-18 Team plays a majority of its games against Division I college hockey teams and against teams from the North American Hockey League. In 27 games, the 6-foot-1 inch defenseman has six points on two goals and four assists. He is ranked in the top-50 in North America in the NHL Central Scouting Service. O'Connor is the third member of the incoming freshman class who plays for the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs of the EJHL. The 6-foot, 190-pound left wing ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 25 points (14 goals and 11 assists). He has two power-play goals, two short-handed tallies and three game winners. "This class will add depth, greater speed, creativity and skill to our lineup," Head Coach Tim Army said. "We look forward to combining this class with the current freshman class."
