Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. - Two second-period goals proved to be the difference as second-ranked New Hampshire defeated the Providence College men's hockey team, 2-1, Saturday night at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.

PC struck first at 13:44 of the opening period as sophomore Cody Wild (North Providence, R.I.) scored his second goal of the season. Senior Colin McDonald (Wethersfield, Conn.) played the puck along the right wing boards to classmate Tony Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.), who skated into the face off circle before slipping a pass to Wild who tucked the puck into the empty net from in close.

The Wildcats scored twice in a span of 59 seconds in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Brett Hemingway set up Jacob Micflikier on a two-on-one rush and Micflikier fired a wrist shot past PC goalie Tyler Sims' (Grand Blanc, Mich.) blocker side at 4:45. At 5:46, Brad Flaishans ripped a slap shot from the right point that was re-directed into the net by Thomas Fortney. The Friars were able to keep the deficit at one as they had to kill off two UNH power plays late in the period, including a two-man advantage.

The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 11-4, in the third period, but could not score the equalizer. Sims finished with 32 saves for the Friars, while UNH's Kevin Regan also stopped 32 shots.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, February 2 when they play Vermont at the Gutterson Fieldhouse in Birlington, Vt.
