PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's basketball coach Tim Welsh announced on April 22 that student-athlete Sharaud Curry has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2005.

Curry, a 5-foot-10-inch, 160-pound guard has attended Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga. the last three years and played under Head Coach Doug Lipscomb. In three seasons at Wheeler, Curry averaged 20.3 points per game. He ranks third all-time in scoring at Wheeler with 1,874 points. He also recorded 530 assists. Curry helped Wheeler capture the Georgia Class AAAAA title in 2003 and 2005. He is the only player in the history of Cobb County to start on two state championship teams. In 2005, Curry averaged 20.7 points per game. For his efforts, he was named Class AAAAA Player of the Year by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Georgia Sports Writers Association.

"Sharaud Curry will help improve our backcourt next season," Welsh said. "He is a proven winner, he's been very well coached and he is the type of student-athlete that we want in our basketball program. In addition to being a scorer, Sharaud also is very unselfish with the basketball. Friar fans will enjoy watching him compete over the next four years."
