Head Coach Michelle Phalen to Hold Summer Softball Clinic

5/15/2003

There will be a Position Camp on June 16-17, and a Hitting Camp on June 18-19.

PITTSBURGH — University of Pittsburgh softball head coach Michelle Phalen and assistant coach Kelly McCann will hold two summer softball clinics during the week of June 16-19 at the new Trees Field, located behind the Charles L. Cost Center on Pittsburgh's upper campus.

There will be a Position Camp on June 16-17 with two sessions each day from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Following the Position Camp will be a Hitting Camp on June 18-19 with two sessions each day at the same times.

Softball skills, drills and strategies will be reviewed to help each player reach their goals. All aspects of softball, including pitching, catching, hitting, fielding, and base running will be covered in the two sessions.

Enrollment is open to all girls 10 years old through those entering their senior year of high school. Each day of camp will provide a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Campers are encouraged to either pack a lunch or bring money to eat at one of the many eateries located in the Petersen Events Center. A camp counselor will accompany all campers who choose to eat at the Petersen Events Center, which is within walking distance from the field.

All campers are asked to bring their own gloves, spikes, bats, helmets, and tennis shoes to camp and each camper will receive a written evaluation of her softball skills at the conclusion of each camp.

For more information or a registration form, please contact Michelle Phalen at (412) 383-7351 or mdp5@pitt.edu or Kelly McCann at (412) 648-8064 or kellymccann15@yahoo.com
