MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD SENDING FIVE TO IC4A CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's track and field team will send five competitors to the IC4A Championships this weekend. The meet will be hosted by Princeton at William Weaver Track & Field Stadium. Competition begins on Friday and runs through Sunday. The Panthers will have representatives in sprints, middle distance, long distance, jumps and the javelin.

The team has two NCAA regional qualifiers competing this weekend in Tim Konoval and Eric Jones. Konoval (Parry Sound, Ontario/Central Connecticut State) will compete in the 1,500 meters. He finished third in this event last season with a time of 3:45.63. He's run a season best of 3:44.24 at this year's Sea Ray Relays. Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) has reached regional-qualifying marks in the triple jump this season. Last year he took eighth in this event at the IC4A Championships with a jump of 14.63 meters. This year he reached a season-best 15.03 at last weekend's Big East Championships.

In sprints, Pitt will have Sam Perkins (Kent, Ohio/Kent Roosevelt) in the 100 meters. Perkins competed in this event last year as well. He ran a season-best 10.77 at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in April.

Pitt's long distance competitor will be senior Andy Tomaswick (Natrona Heights, Pa./Highlands). He'll compete in the 10,000 meters after qualifying with a season-best 30:23.31 at the Sea Ray Relays.

In the javelin, Pitt will be represented by Matt Raquet (Reading, Pa./Holy Name). He threw for a distance of 58.95 meters at the Morgan State meet to qualify for the IC4A Championships.

Tomaswick will compete on Friday evening. Perkins and Konoval will have preliminaries on Saturday and finals on Sunday. Raquet will compete in the javelin on Saturday, and Jones will be in the triple jump on Sunday.
