PITTSBURGH-Three seniors playing in their final stretch of games came up with big performances in the Panthers' 2-0 victory over Bucknell at Founders Field in Indianola, Pa., on Wednesday night.

Forwards Peter Veltri (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Mark Sikora (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) each scored a goal in the first half and goalkeeper Joe Conlan (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) posted six saves for his second shutout in just his second career start.

Veltri got the Panthers on the scoreboard with a nifty lob over Bison goalkeeper Steve Whitaker at the 11:05 mark of the first half. Sikora and freshman Marco Carrizales (Missouri City, Texas/Alfonso Crutch Charter School) picked up assists on Veltri's goal.

A little over 12 minutes later, Sikora got his fourth goal of the season when he blasted a shot inside the right corner of the net behind Whitaker for the 2-0 lead. Junior Miles Dowiak (Houston, Texas/Mayde Creek) scored the only assist on the play.

Bucknell had several chances to break the shutout but Conlan and the Panthers stopped any Bison threat.

Pittsburgh outshot Bucknell, 13-10, for the game with Carrizales and Veltri leading the team with three attempts apiece. Ori Adrabi and Tom Ryan led the Bison with two shots each.

The Panthers are now 2-0-3 in their past five games and 4-1-3 in their past eight since a 1-6 start to the season. They will host Big East rival Boston College on Saturday at Founders Field. Game time is 1 p.m.
