MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Kevin Pittsnogle received a surprise start when D'or Fischer came down with the flu. He left Pittsburgh with a sick feeling before the night was over. Pittsnogle scored a career-high 27 points, including eight in overtime, as West Virginia knocked off Big East Conference arch-rival No. 15 Pittsburgh, 83-78 in overtime, for the first time in four years. After the Panthers' Chris Taft scored the first hoop of the extra session, Tyrone Sally hit a 3-pointer for the Mountaineers before Pittsnogle converted a three-point play and a shot from the arc to build a 73-66 lead with two minutes left. West Virginia's last win against Pittsburgh was a 69-68 victory at the WVU Coliseum in the 2000-01 season. The Mountaineers leads the series, which dates back to 1905, 89-77. In regulation, West Virginia took a 64-62 lead with 22 seconds left when Johannes Herber scored on a six-footer in the lane. But Pittsburgh's Chevy Troutman tipped in a miss by Antonio Graves, who missed a lefthanded layup with 3.7 seconds left, to send the game into overtime. Pittsnogle made 10-of-17 from the floor and Sally scored 19 points for the Mountaineers, who had lost six of their last seven games.
