Freshman Diver Dennis Nemtsanov Earns Trip to NCAAs

Nemtsanov won the platform title at the NCAA Zone A Qualifying Meet on Saturday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Freshman diver Dennis Nemtsanov earned a trip to the NCAA Championships in his first season by finishing first in the platform competition at the Alumni Arena Natatorium on the campus of the University at Buffalo. He was competing in the NCAA Zone A Qualifying Meet.

Nemtsanov (Calhoun, Ga./LSU), despite only competing once all year on the platform, scored 458.8 points to take first place and earn a trip to the NCAAs. He also placed sixth in the 1-meter competition with a total of 545.8 points in the finals and finished second in the 3-meter competition with 529.55 points.

Also competing at the Zone A Qualifying Meet was sophomore Richard Grinstead (Wellsville, N.Y./Hornell), who finished 11th on the 1-meter board (507.95 pts.) and 17th in the 3-meter competition (374.95 pts.).

Junior Matt Schwartz (Huntington, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) was the 13th-place finisher on the 1-meter board (495.9 pts.), while freshman Troy Kaczorowski (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was 15th in the 1-meter competition (459.75 pts.) and 12th on the 3-meter board (406.75 pts.).

Women's diver Colleen Kristobak (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), a freshman, also competed at the Zone A Qualifying Meet and finished 14th in the 1-meter competition (456.8 pts.) and was 23rd on the 3-meter board (201 pts.).
