Carolyne Savini Earns Trip to NCAA Swimming Championships 3/13/2003
PITTSBURGH — When the women qualifiers for the NCAA Championships were recently announced, Pittsburgh junior Carolyne Savini (Egg Harbour Twp., N.J./Holy Spirit) finally received the good news that she had awaited. Savini, currently ranked 16th in the nation in the 200 back (1:58.24), was selected to compete in the championship meet after having missed last year by two tenths of a second. At this season’s Big East Championships held in February at the Goodwill Games Pool in Uniondale, NY, Savini finished second in all three of her individual events and set six school records. She now is one of the most decorated Panthers in history as she holds the records in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 back, 100 back, 200 back, and 200 im. She is also a member of the school-record holding 200 medley, 400 medley, and 200 freestyle relay teams. Savini is seeded 16th in the 200 back at NCAAs and will also compete in the 100 back (39th), and 200 IM (32nd). The Women’s NCAA Championships will be held at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, March 20-22.
