Feb. 15, 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Standout freestyler for the women's swimming and diving team, senior Kristin Brown was named a 2006-07 Big East/Aeropostale student-athlete, by the league, for her dedication in the pool as well as in the classroom. Brown is one of only 15 female student-athletes in the conference to earn this distinction and will be rewarded $2,000 toward her graduate studies.

"Kristin is a modern day definition of a renaissance woman," Head Coach Chuck Knoles said. "She is athletic, artistic and very bright. That is one of the best combinations to possess."

In the pool, Brown (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) has paced the Panthers from the moment she stepped foot on campus, compiling All-Big East honors in each of her four seasons at Pitt. Last season, she captured a Big East title in the 200 free and garnered All-Big East accolades for her performances on the 200, 400 and 800 free relay teams. She also earned the squad's sole individual NCAA bid in the 200 and 500 free as a junior, and was the lead leg on Pitt's first NCAA relay team in over a decade.

Brown recently set school records in the 200 free (1:47.44) and 500 free (4:48.84), while leading the 800 free relay (7:19.14) to a school record at the 2007 Big East Championships. She also holds school records as a member of the 200 (1:32.40), 400 (3:21.31) free relay teams.

Brown is a history of arts & architecture and studio arts major.
