EAST MEADOW, N.Y.-- Senior Kristin Brown recorded another school record in the second night of the Big East Championships, however Pitt's women's swimming and diving team slips to sixth place with 136.5 points.
Brown (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) placed third in the 500 free with a NCAA provisional time of 4:48.84. Her time eclipsed the four-year-old record of 4:49.54 set by Nicole Ebert.
Swimming in the consolation heat of the 500 free, sophomore Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) finished at the 4:58.00 mark for 13th overall.
In her first-ever BEC meet, freshman Margo Ekstrom (Erie, Pa./McDonnell) finished with 236.45 points, placing sixth overall in the 1M diving event.
In the consolation heat of the women's 50 free, junior Kelly O'Hara (Voorhees, N.J./Timber Creek) finished 13th at the 23.69 mark, while senior Andrea Shoust (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./White Pines C & VS) placed 15th with a time of 23.74.
Freshman Sophie Cross (Thornton, Pa./Glen Mills) finished at the 2:05.43 mark, tying for 12th in the 200 IM consolation race. Senior Kathy Siuda (Waterloo, Ont./Bluevale Collegiate Institute) trailed slightly, placing 14th with a time of 2:05.70.
The 200 free relay team closed out the night with a NCAA provisional time of 1:32.90, placing fifth in the event. The 200 free relay team included: O'Hara, Shoust, senior Kristin Brown (East Berlin, Pa./Bermudian Springs) and sophomore Stacie Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley).
Day three of the Big East Championships will resume at 10 a.m. tomorrow with the prelims of the 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and men's 3M diving. Real Time results are available at www.pittsburghpanthers.com.
