American's Talicia Jackson and Navy's Cassie Consedine were the winners of the first round of Patriot League women's basketball weekly awards this season. Jackson was named the Patriot League/Baden Player of the Week, while Consedine was tabbed the Patriot League/Baden Rookie of the Week.

Baden Player of the Week
Talicia Jackson, American Jr., G, Minneapolis, Minn.
Jackson opened the 2007-08 season with a career-high 22 points in a 70-61 win over Longwood to lead all scorers. The junior guard also matched a career high with four three-pointers made. She added four rebounds and four steals in the victory. This is Jackson's first career Patriot League Player of the Week award.
Baden Rookie of the Week
Cassie Consedine, Navy Fr., C, Bartlesville, Okla.
Consedine averaged 11.0 ppg and 9.7 rpg over three games for Navy during opening weekend. The freshman center recorded back-to-back double-doubles with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Rice and 14 points and 12 boards against Winthrop. Against Rice, she became just the second freshman in Navy history to register a double-double on opening night. Her five blocks against Winthrop set a Navy freshmen class record and were just one shy of the overall Navy record.

Melissa Rich, Lehigh
Jr., C, Coplay, Pa.
Scored 17 points and pulled down seven boards vs. Saint Joseph's. Went 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Patriot League Notebook
Opening Weekend
Six of the Patriot League's eight schools competed during the first weekend of the 2007-08 season, including American, Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lehigh and Navy. American was the only team to come away with a win, defeating Longwood on Friday. Army and Lafayette will begin the season this week.
Ranked Opponent
Holy Cross will be the first Patriot League team to face a ranked opponent this year. The Crusaders will travel to No. 2/2 Connecticut on Wednesday. The game will be aired on Connecticut Public TV (CPTV).
Also On TV
Lafayette's season-opening game tonight versus Monmouth at 7 p.m. will be televised through the Lafayette Sports Network on RCN-4 and WBPH-60.
Seeing Double
Navy freshman Cassie Consedine posted two double-doubles during the first weekend of play. Against Rice, she had 12 points and 10 rebounds and versus Winthrop she posted 14 points and 12 rebounds. Bucknell junior Lauren Schober came up with a double-double in her only game last week with 10 points and 10 rebounds versus St. Bonaventure.
2008 Patriot League Tournament
The 2008 Patriot League Women's Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday-Sunday, March 8-9 and Wednesday, March 12. Army will host the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. on March 8-9. The Patriot League Tournament Championship Game will take place at the site of the highest remaining seed on March 12. The championship game will be broadcast on ESPNU.

Team Notebooks
American American earned a 70-61 win over Longwood on Friday to kick off the 2007-08 season. For the second straight season, American opened with a victory, improving to 22-20 in season openers. Junior Talicia Jackson scored a game-high 22 points, while senior Liz Hayes (14 points) and junior Pam Stanfield (12) also reached double-digit scoring. Senior Maggie Smith-Davidson grabbed a game-high nine boards. The Eagles will host VCU on Tuesday and play at Georgetown on Friday. American is 10-11 versus VCU all-time and 12-26 against Georgetown.
Army The 2007-08 season will begin for Army on Tuesday at home against St. John's. The Black Knights will also play St. Francis (N.Y.) next week. Senior guard Cara Enright returns as the Black Knights' leading scorer at a 14.9 per game clip last season. Enright was named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team and was a First-Team All-League performer a year ago. Junior Alex McGuire was a Second-Team All-Patriot League honoree in 2007 after averaging 12.1 ppg.
Bucknell Junior Amanda Brown led Bucknell with 13 points in a 61-55 loss at St. Bonaventure on Friday. Junior Lauren Schober added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Bucknell, which lost its first road game of the season for the sixth consecutive year, will open its home schedule on Tuesday, when it hosts 2007 NCAA Tournament team James Madison. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Bucknell will play at Hampton on Saturday. The Bison hold a 3-0 advantage in the series versus the Pirates.
Colgate Colgate dropped its season opener to Niagara, 78-39, at home on Saturday. Freshman Evan Librizzi registered a team-high 12 points in her collegiate debut. Rookie Sami Kozlowski added eight points, while senior Caitlin Gillard had seven and a team-best six rebounds. Colgate plays two road games this week, facing Canisius on Monday and Albany on Thursday. The Raiders defeated the Griffs, 62-57, in overtime last year. Colgate is 6-2 all-time versus Albany.
Holy Cross Sophomore guards Briana McFadden and Bethany O'Dell both scored 10 points in a 54-44 loss to Vermont. Senior Ashley McLaughlin pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and scored six points for the Crusaders. Holy Cross will play at No. 2/2 Connecticut on Wednesday. The game will be broadcast on Connecticut Public TV (CPTV). The Crusaders and Huskies have played one another 17 times. On Sunday, Holy Cross will travel to Maine, a team the Crusades have defeated six times in eight meetings.
Lafayette Lafayette opens the season at home on Monday against Monmouth. The Leopards will also travel to Cornell and host Mount Saint Mary's next week. Senior Vanessa Van De Venter will lead Lafayette after being named Second-Team All-Patriot League a year ago. Van De Venter averaged 12.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The junior duo of Emily Garner and Jessica Spicer made an impact last season, scoring 10.8 and 9.8 points per game, respectively. Garner pulled down a team-high 6.6 boards per contest.
Lehigh Lehigh lost to Saint Joseph's by one point on Saturday night, falling 60-59. Junior Melissa Rich led the Mountain Hawks with 17 points and seven rebounds and classmate Tricia Smith added 10 points and six rebounds in her first game back with the team since sitting out all last year due to injury. Lehigh's lone game of the week will be at Fordham on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks will be looking for their first-ever win over the Rams in 12 chances.
Navy Navy fell to Rice, Winthrop and North Texas over the weekend at the Winthrop Invitational. Freshman Cassie Consedine nearly averaged a double-double at the three-game Winthrop Classic with 33 points and 29 rebounds. Consedine and teammate Angela Myers became the seventh and eighth freshmen in Navy history since starts were first recorded (mid-`80s) to start the opening game of the season. Consedine became just the second freshman in Navy history to record a double-double on opening night with 12 points and 10 rebounds. She recorded another double-double the following day against Winthrop with 14 points and 12 boards. Navy will host Howard on Wednesday and Rider on Sunday. The Mids hold a 2-2 record versus the Bison and are facing the Broncs for the first time.
