The Navy women's soccer team will begin NCAA Tournament play on Friday evening when they take on the Big East Champion West Virginia Mountaineers. The Mountaineers have an overall record of 15-4-2, and defeated No. 9 Notre Dame 5-3 in penalty kicks to win their first ever Big East Tournament title. WVU is lead by senior Ashley Banks, who has a team-high 13 goals, 8 assists, and 34 points this season. The Mountaineers have four players with at least 10 points, and have scored 41 goals so far this season.

West Virginia earned one of four No. 4 seeds in the tournament field, along with Wake Forest, Virginia and Notre Dame. The winner of the Navy-West Virginia first-round matchup will face the winner of James Madison vs. Penn on Sunday.

Navy has faced West Virginia two times before, during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. The Mids are 1-1-0 against WVU, with a win in '96 and a 2-1 loss in '97.
