WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army golf star Scott Manley earned a pair of postseason honors in closing out his finest season with his selection to the All-New England first team and PING All-Regional squad.
Teeing off as the Black Knights No. 1 player, Manley led the team with a 75.9 stroke average this spring and 72.8 during the fall. Manley, who has not missed a tournament in 24 outings since coming to the Academy, won the Toski Invitational on Sept. 30. The sophomore finished the 36-hole tournament with a five-under-par 139. This spring, Manley took second place at the New England Championship. He finished one stroke off medallist honors carding a two-under-par 142.
The Dove Canyon, Calif., native is Army's first two-time NCAA All-District I selection. After leading Army to its first NCAA appearance in seven years, he was named a district all-star last season. Jimmy Lee is the only other Black Knight recognized for District I honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Manley's selection to the All-New England team marks the third player to be recognized from Army. Ryan Hazelton, a 2002 USMA graduate, was honored in 2001 and 2002 and Lee was named in 1996.
Manley was also named to the Patriot League's academic honor roll for the 2002-03 season. The Golden State denizen is a two-time all-academic selection, having been name to the squad his plebe year at West Point.
Last season, Manley won his first collegiate tournament, the Patriot League Championship and was crowned the league's "Player of the Year" after helping Army to the conference title.
