Patriot League Announces Football Players of the Week

Center Valley, Pa. - Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph, defensive back Casey Gough and wide receiver Brett McDermott and Bucknell wide receiver Shaun Pasternak were named Patriot League Football Players of the Week on Monday.

Randolph threw for a career-high 441 yards and three touchdown passes in the Crusaders' 27-20 victory over Colgate. Gough notched a pair of interceptions, both in the fourth quarter, in the victory, while McDermott had four kickoff returns for 132 yards. Pasternak helped Bucknell to a 38-24 victory at Patriot League champion Fordham with a 58-yard reception that set up a third-quarter field goal.

Offensive Player of the Week

Dominic Randolph, Holy Cross Jr., QB, 6'3, 211, Amelia, Ohio/St. Xavier

Randolph completed 29-of-42 passes for 441 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions to lead Holy Cross past Colgate, 27-20. The 441 yards set a new career-high, and he also totaled a career-high 473 yards of total offense. Randolph placed second on Holy Cross single-game lists in both categories. He led a rally from a 20-13 deficit in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdown passes, including the game-winning strike with just over seven minutes to play. Randolph, a finalist for the Walter Payton Award given to the most outstanding player in the FCS, set single-season Holy Cross records for completions (297), attempts (482) and total offense (3,741), and finished second in passing yards (3,604) and touchdowns (30). Randolph earns his third Offensive Player of the Week nod of the year.

Defensive Player of the Week

Casey Gough, Holy Cross Sr.,DB, 6'1, 200, Hinsdale, Ill./Fenwick

Gough picked off two passes, both in the fourth quarter, and notched five tackles to lead Holy Cross past Colgate, 27-20. The first interception came in the endzone with Holy Cross trailing, 20-13, early in the fourth, and the second came late in the game with the Crusaders preserving a seven-point lead. Gough recorded multiple interceptions in a game for the first time in his final game.
 

 

Special Teams Player of the Week

Brett McDermott, Holy Cross Jr., WR, 6'1, 202, Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield

McDermott returned four kickoffs for 132 yards (33.0 avg) against Colgate, with a career-long of 72 in the first quarter. He finished the game with a career-high 220 all-purpose yards, including seven receptions for 88 yards.

Rookie of the Week

Shaun Pasternak, Bucknell Fr., WR, 6'2, 180, Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights

Pasternak hauled in a 58-yard reception in Bucknell's 38-24 victory over Fordham. The catch set up a third-quarter field goal that gave the Bison a seven-point cushion. He also drew a pass interference penalty in the endzone that set up a touchdown. Pasternak earns his second Rookie honor.
