Conrad Achieves Third Team Academic All-America Honors

May 30, 2007

EASTON, Pa. - Senior James Conrad (Columbia, Md./Atholton) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Baseball Third Team it was announced on Wednesday.

The centerfielder has done everything a coach could ask of a lead-off hitter. He leads the team in batting average, swinging the aluminum alloy at a .351 clip. His .457 on-base percentage also paces the squad and has helped him set a single-season record for runs scored with 65.

That record is one of several that the three-time All-Patriot League selection has set this season. He swiped a single-season record 48 bases, which ranks him third in the nation in 2007, and also holds the Lafayette career stolen bases mark with 84.

In the classroom, Conrad graduated on May 19 with a degree in Mathematics and a cumulative GPA of 3.58. He did not let up in his final semester, finishing with a 3.57 term GPA. To be eligible for Academic All-America status as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), a student-athlete must maintain a 3.2 GPA and be a starter or key reserve.

Lafayette's season continues on Friday when the Leopards open play at the NCAA Regional in Charlottesville, Va. where Lafayette will face eighth-ranked Virginia (43-14) at 4 p.m. The Leopards will play either defending College World Series champion Oregon State (38-17) or Big East champ Rutgers (41-19) on Saturday at a time to be determined. Under the direction of Patriot League Coach of the Year, the Leopards' record stands at 33-18 which includes a new record for victories in a season.
