EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) -
The Lafayette men's and women's swimming and diving squads have both been honored as Academic All-America Teams for the spring 2006 semester by the College Swim Coaches Association of America.
"I'm very happy for our student-athletes," head coach Jim Dailey said. "They all work very hard and make a number of sacrifices to excel in both the academic and athletic realms. I'm glad there's a way to recognize that hard work and commitment through our sport."
The women's team ranked 24th of 249 schools with a 3.38 grade-point average and was included in the Superior category, which requires at least a 3.25 GPA. Lafayette has been recognized as an Academic All-America program in all but one of its 26 semesters under Dailey, who was named the 2006 Patriot League Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.
The men's program posted a 3.08 cumulative GPA, receiving an Excellent rating from the CSCAA, and ranked 31st in the nation. This marks the 10th straight semester and 18th overall that the Leopards have gained Academic All-America status on the men's side.
Earlier this summer, the Patriot League announced that 24 women's swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll, the highest total in the league. They were joined by eight members of the men's team.
