Pacific Sweeps Big West Tennis Weekly Honors

Irvine, Calif. - The Pacific tennis programs swept the Big West Conference Tennis Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 5th-11th as sophomore Moritz Starke (Bamberg, Germany) earn the men's honor and senior Vana Mrazovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro) was honored on the women's side.
Starke earned his second straight honor after posting a 2-1 record at No. 1 singles position this past week
In a week in which the Tigers lost all three contests and won just two points, Starke accounted for both of those points. He defeated New Mexico's Max Jones 6-4, 6-1 and Stanislav Glukhov of Idaho 6-4, 6-4. Starke is 7-2 for the spring season and has scored all seven of Pacific's dual points.
At No. 1 doubles, Starke and partner Alan Kelly picked up a win over the Idaho duo of Poin and Miranda 8-2.
Mrazovic was honored after picking up to two victories at No. 1 singles and a 1-1 split at No. 1 doubles.
Mrazovic defeated Idaho's Patricia Ruman 6-1, 6-0 on Mar. 9 and came back the following day to win a marathon match over Boise State's Bianca Jochimsen 2-6, 7-5, 11-9. Both matches were part of the Boise State Invitational, with Mrazovic picking up two of the Tigers' three points on the weekend.
In doubles play, Mrazovic teamed with Svenja Arens to defeat Idaho's Patricia Ruman and Mariel Tinnirello 9-7.
The Pacific men's tennis team is back in action as they host Northern Colorado on March 19th at 5:00pm at Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The women host the Bears earlier in the day at 2pm.
