Pacific falls short 1-0 in overtime battle to Radford

Farmville, Vir. - The Pacific field hockey team outshot Radford, 12-11, in their 1-0 overtime NorPac loss on Thursday evening of Oct. 4. The marathon came to an end as Radford scored at the 1:57 minute mark in overtime.

Pacific dropped to 1-9 overall, and 0-2 in the conference, while Radford improved to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in the NorPac.

After neither team could score in regulation, Pacific captured the ball in the circle with a chance to end the game. But, after two attempts, the Tigers could not get it past Radford's Jennifer Wisniewski who ended the game with six saves.

Radford answered with the only goal of the game at the 1:57 minute mark from Megan Longtain who acquired her game-winning goal on a breakaway.

The Tigers had outshot the Highlanders 7-4 at the scoreless first half break and were in front of their conference opponent 2-1 in penalty strokes.

Senior Elle Busch (San Jose, Calif.) led the team has she directed five shots towards the goal. Junior Kedibone Leubane (Capetown, South Africa) attempted two shots against Radford's defense but was declined as well.

Radford's Lara Cariker added a defensive save to prevent Pacific from scoring.

In the second half of play Radford out shot Pacific 6-3, on top of a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior Valerie Niles (San Jose, Calif.) continued to keep her poise as she picked up five saves in the second half of play. Niles ended the game with a game-high seven saves.

Shortly after Niles' fourth save, sophomore Kim Keyawa (Chico, Calif.) had one of the Tiger's best chances of the day with a clear shot on goal. She was rejected by the solid defense of Wisniewski as well.

The Tigers continue their three game road series on Friday, Oct. 5 against NorPac foe Davidson. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 pm ET.
