Tigers Move Up Three Spots To Finish In A Tie For Fifth At The Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate

April 5, 2005

Santa Barbara, Calif. - Behind senior Matt Kern's (Castro Valley, Calif.) first top-10 finish of the season, the Pacific men's golf team finished strong at the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, moving up three spots in the final day to finish in a tie for fifth place. The Tigers finished 17 strokes back of the tournament champions, the UC Davis Aggies, who defended their title, winning for the second consecutive year.

Coming in after day one in a tie for 33rd place, Kern shot his third sub-70 round in the last four tournaments to improve his position by 23 spots to finish in a tie for 10th. For the tournament, Kern shot a 4-over, 220. Rebounding from a poor showing in rounds one and two, sophomore Thomas Petersson (Stockholm, Sweden) shot the Tigers second best round of the day, a 1-over, 73, to finish in a tie for 29th at 226, +10.

The Tigers will next compete at the US Intercollegiate hosted by Stanford University on April 16-17. Par for the Stanford Golf Course is set at 71.
