Bachman Shines for Team USA

SALTILLO, Mexico - Former Bruin Wiz Bachman helped the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Team capture the Pan American Cup with a 3-0 win over the Dominican Republic at the Coahuila Convention Center Saturday night. With the 25-20-25-18, 25-19 win, Team USA finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. More importantly, the United States qualified for the 2004 FIVB World Grand Prix earlier in the week by being one of the top three finishers at the Pan American Cup from the NORCECA volleyball confederation. Cuba and Dominican Republic also qualified for next year's World Grand Prix from NORCECA, while Brazil will be the South American representative. In the third-place match, Cuba defeated Brazil in three sets. Three members of Team USA were honored for their play at the conclusion of the tournament. Bachman (Farmington, Minn.) was named Best Blocker, Lindsey Berg (Honolulu, Hawaii) was named Best Setter and Logan Tom (Salt Lake City, Utah) captured Best Receiver accolades.
