AROUND THE LEAGUE:
The 2007 Pac-10 women's soccer regular season
comes to a close this weekend ... With a 7-0-0
record in Conference play, UCLA (14-1-2) controls
its own destiny as it has a five-point cushion
over second-place USC (13-2-2, 5-1-1) ... The
Bruins need a tie to guarantee at least a share of
the Pac-10 title and with one win will claim the
championship outright ... Only two teams have
ever finished with a perfect 9-0-0 mark in Pac-
10 play as the 1997 UCLA squad and the 2002
Stanford squad both accomplished the feat ... In
the NCAA's final RPI rankings of the regular season,
three Pac-10 teams are ranked in the Top-5
including third-ranked UCLA, fourth-ranked
USC and fifth-ranked STANFORD (13-2-3, 4-1-2)
... CALIFORNIA (12-5-0, 4-3-0) comes in at No.
32, ARIZONA STATE (9-9-1, 3-4-1) at No. 39 and
WASHINGTON STATE (10-4-3, 3-3-1) at No. 58
... The Golden Bears are one of the hottest teams
in the Conference as they have won four games
in a row, jumping to fourth place from seventh
over the weekend ... JR F Valerie Barnes scored
both game-winning goals in Cal's two victories
over Washington State and WASHINGTON
(5-11-1, 2-4-1) ... Washington State dropped two
games by just one goal each as they faced No. 14
Cal (2-1) and No. 2 Stanford (2-1, OT) ... Despite
the setback, the Cougars have been unbeaten in
eight of their last 11 games, earning six wins and
two ties ... SR F Brooke Bemis scored the first
goal of the match against Cal on Friday ... It was
her ninth of the season and 12th of her career,
moving her into a tie for 10th place on the Cougar
single-season and career lists, respectively ...
The Sun Devils are also looking to get back on the
winning track as they take on ARIZONA (6-12-1,
1-6-1) on Fri., Nov. 9 ... Arizona State has played
well as of late taking second-ranked Stanford to
double-overtime, ending in a 0-0 draw ... The
Sun Devils also went unbeaten in four of seven
games during the month of October ... Arizona
got a score from SO F Analisa Marquez, her
third of the year, in Friday's game against USC
... OREGON (8-7-3, 1-3-3) and OREGON STATE
(7-8-3, 0-5-2) played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie
on Friday ... OSU SO MF Najma Homidi scored
both goals for the Beavers, recording her first career
multi-goal game ... The Ducks, who rallied
from a 2-0 deficit, played their longest match of
the season at 2:30 ... USC FR MF Ashli Sandoval
picked up two more assists on the weekend to
bring her season total to seven, good enough to
rank second in the Pac-10 ... The Trojans netted
their 10th shutout on the year in the 1-0 win over
ASU ... Stanford SR D Rachel Buehler anchored
a stingy Cardinal defense, allowing just one goal
on the weekend, while adding the game-winning
assist in Sunday's 2-1 overtime win against WSU
... Washington SO F Veronica Perez-Murillo
scored her first goal of the season against Cal on
Sunday ... She scored the equalizer off a penalty
kick late in the game.
