Matt Hague, an outfielder and relief pitcher on the Washington baseball team, has been named to Baseball America's Freshman All-America second team, the weekly magazine announced yesterday.

Hague, from Kentwood High, worked his way into the Huskies' starting lineup about halfway into the 2005 season and ended up having started 28 games. He batted .419 (52-for-124) with 12 doubles, eight home runs and 34 runs batted in. His eight homers tied for the team lead.

Hague, who also appeared in 13 games as a relief pitcher, earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention as well.

Baseball America selected Joe Savery, a pitcher and first baseman at Rice, as it's Freshman of the Year. Savery was the Western Athletic Conference player of the year.
