Wildcat Cross Country Teams Move Into National Top-10 Rankings
Oct. 18, 2000 After several successful races at recent meets, the University of Arizona men's and women's cross country teams have both moved into the top-10 of the NCAA Division I Cross Country polls. The women's team made the biggest move in all of the Oct. 16 FinishLynx poll, jumping from No. 15 in the Oct. 9 ranking to No. 8 this week. The Wildcat women finished seventh out of 56 teams, with junior Tara Chaplin (10th) and senior Katrin Engelen (22nd) both finishing amongst the top-25 runners, at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Ames, Iowa, last Saturday. Arizona's men dropped one spot in this week's Mondo Men's Cross Country poll, but remained in the top-10 at No. 10. Led by an 11th-place finish by junior Mike Cramer at the Pre-NCAA meet, the Wildcats finished sixth of 53 teams. The Wildcats will rest this weekend, but resume competition Oct. 28 at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships in Seattle, Wash. The teams then will compete at the NCAA West Regional in Fresno, Calif., Nov. 11, before returning to Ames for the NCAA Championships Nov. 20.
