STANFORD continued its dominance in men's cross country as the Cardinal won their fifth Pac-10 title in the the last six years. While the Cardinal did not match their total of 21 points from the previous year, their 28 points marked the second best score in the last 22 years. Sophomore Grant Robison paced the Cardinal attack on a balmy morning in Scottsdale, crossing the finish line first in a winning time of 24:04.0. Three other Cardinal runners finished in the top seven, including third-place finisher Donald Sage. Sage, a sophomore, was Stanford's top finisher at the NCAA Championships, finishing seventh to lead Stanford to a second place team finish. For his efforts, Sage was named the Pac-10 Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

ARIZONA STATE freshman J.J. Duke was voted the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, as he helped lead the Sun Devils to their best ever Pac-10 finish with a second place showing.

For the fourth time in his coaching career, Pac-10 Men's Coach of the Year honors went to Stanford's Vin Lananna. Not only did the Cardinal pick up their fifth Pac-10 title in the last six years, but they also captured top honors at the NCAA West Regional and were narrowly edged out of the NCAA title by Colorado (90-91).
