Husky Cross-Country Dominates Pac-10 Academic Honors
Nov. 22, 2002 WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Washington's cross-country teams placed a total of six student-athletes on the 2002 Pac-10 All-Academic Teams, as announced Friday by Commissioner Tom Hansen. Seven other Husky runners earned honorable mention. Junior Kate Spigel (3.66 GPA, Business Administration), the 17th overall finisher at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships, was one of 10 Pac-10 women selected to the all-academic first team, while four other Husky women made the 10-person second-team. Washington's total of five first- and second-team honorees was equaled only by conference champion Stanford, which also placed five women on the academic teams. After two years of honorable mention to the all-academic team, senior Kate Bradshaw (3.25, Psychology) earned second-team accolades after a 13th-place finish at the Pac-10 meet. Bradshaw is joined on the second team by senior Courtney Inman (3.42, Business Administration), the seventh-place finisher at both the Pac-10 and NCAA Regional meets, and a pair of outstanding sophomores: Camille Connelly (3.70, Undeclared) and Lindsey Egerdahl (3.43, Undeclared). On the men's side, junior Todd Arnold (3.40, Undeclared) earned second-team all-academic honors after placing 26th overall at the Pac-10 Championships. Arnold was an honorable mention pick to the 2001 all-academic squad.
Junior John Russell, a two-time all-academic honorable mention choice, led seven Huskies on the men's and women's honorable mention lists. Russell was joined by redshirt freshmen Andy Fader and Mark Mandi, sophomores Jamie Gibbs and Laura Halverson, junior Ben Koss and senior Jeremy Park.
