Anca Anastasiu Named To Pac-10 Women's Tennis All-Academic First Team
June 8, 2005 USC sophomore Anca Anastasiu was named to the 2005 Pac-10 Women's Tennis All-Academic first team. The business major has a 4.00 cumulative grade point average, the only player with a perfect GPA among the 51 women and men honored by the Pac-10 this season. Anastasiu finished the 2005 season ranked No. 48 nationally in singles play after posting a 29-11 record. She was a participant in the NCAA singles tournament. She helped the USC women, who advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA tourney, end the season ranked No. 7 in the nation. Her Women of Troy teammate, sophomore Judy DeVera, was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention team. DeVera has a 3.08 GPA as a business major. She was 9-13 in singles play in 2005. Soph Jamil Al-Agba made the men's Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention squad. Also a business major, he has a 3.18 GPA. Al-Agba, a 2005 All-American who ended the season ranked No. 20 in singles, led the Trojan men to a No. 21 national ranking. He made appearances in both the singles and doubles competition at the NCAAs. He finished 17-17 in singles play.
