Five Huskies Named To Pac-10 All-Academic Team
June 8, 2005 WALNUT CREEK, CALIF. - Led by first-team selections Alex Vlaski and Daniel Chu, five Huskies were named to the 2005 Pac-10 All-Academic team for men's tennis conference commissioner Tom Hansen announced Wednesday. Vlaski and Chu were joined by Peter Scharler and Alex Slovic on the second-team and Chris Floyd on the honorable mention squad. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor. Vlaski, a native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, has a 3.51 grade point average and is majoring in business administration. The honor is the third-straight first-team Pac-10 All-Academic nod for the Husky senior who was also named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII first-team last month. Chu, a native of Vancouver, B.C., has a 3.53 gpa and is majoring in business administration. This is the first Pac-10 All-Academic award for Chu who was one of just two sophomores named to the first-team. Also a first-time honoree is Slovic, a sophomore from Pancevo, Yugoslavia, who earned second-team acclaim. Slovic has a 3.50 gpa in business administration. Scharler, a senior from Salzburg, Austria, earned his second-straight second-team selection after being named to the honorable mention team in 2003. Scharler has a 3.26 gpa and is majoring in economics. Rounding out Washington's top-five scholars was sophomore Floyd, who earned his first selection to the honorable mention team. Floyd, from Mercer Island, Wash., has a 3.13 gpa in communications.
