Tara Kirk finished fifth in the 100 meter breast at the FINA World Championships on Tuesday

Barcelona, Spain - Current Stanford swimmer Tara Kirk (senior in 2003-04) finished fifth in the 100 meter breast at the 10th FINA World Championships on Tuesday the Palau Sant Jordi. Kirk, who had come into the finals seeded fifth, recorded a time of 1:08.30. Xuejuan Luo won the event in a time of 1:06.80.

The FINA World Championships continue through Sunday, July 27. Former Stanford swimmers Jenny Thompson (1991-95) and Gabrielle Rose (1996-2000) are among the field with Thompson having already captured two gold medals and breaking the all-time medal record at the World Championships by raising her career total to 11.
