Medford, OR

High School:

As a Sophomore (2003): Jones entered her sophomore year as a walk-on, but a strong 2003 season earned her the title of Most Improved Gymnast and earned her a scholarship for the 2004 season... Competed on bars in every meet but one (although she exhibitioned in that meet) and had a career-high 9.875 against Utah (2/21)... Scored 9.80 or better on the event nine times (10 counting her exhibition) and averaged 9.777... Was also expected to be one of the team's top vaulters early on, but an ankle injury slowed those plans... After competing competed a handspring front tuck (valued at 9.80) throughout her freshman year, she learned a completely new vault in the offseason and planned to compete a yurchenko full (valued at a 10.0) at the start of the season... However, a sprained ankle in December forced her to limit her work on the event... As a result, she exhibitioned the first five meets of the year and did a yurchenko layout (9.80 value) until she was ready to debut the more difficult full... Once she did, she was a key factor to OSU's success on the event... Officially competed seven times and scored a 9.80 or better in five of those meets... Had a high of 9.90 at Brigham Young and scored a 9.85 at the Pac-10 Championships.

As a Freshman (2002): Made an immediate impact as a freshman walk-on... Was in the vault lineup in 12 of 14 meets and was named Co-Most Consistent Gymnast on the event... Hit all 12 of her vaults, highlighted by a season-high 9.70 at the Shanico Inn-vitational... Followed that up with back-to-back 9.675 marks at the Pacific-10 Championships and the NCAA West Regional Championships... Performed five exhibition beam routines and two exhibition bar routines, with highs of 9.65 on both events.

Pre-Oregon State: Was involved with gymnastics for 15 years... Three-time Level 10 Junior Olympic nationals qualifier... Tied for first in the all-around competition at the 2001 Region 2 meet.

Personal: Born in Redmond, Oregon... Daughter of Ed and Nancy Mayer and Rich and Leigh Jones... Has two younger siblings, Garrett and Rebecca... Merchandising management major... Graduated from Phoenix High School, where she was involved in DECA and was the marketing class president... Chose OSU because of "the education it has to offer and I really liked the coaches that would be helping me."
