Women's Track
Returns for only the indoor season to put finishing exclamation point on Oregon's most decorated distance career this decade. Will probably aim towards the 3,000 on the NCAA level, although she'll point towards a post-collegiate jump to the 5,000 since the 3K has been dropped in favor of the steeplechase at the international level. Already is an eight-time NCAA veteran in outdoor track and cross country with two All-America finishes on the oval, and three honors on the trails. One of the Pac-10's most versatile threats with past NCAA qualifying marks in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000. In her final NCAA harrier season back in 1998, became the first Duck to claim two, NCAA top-10 finishes on the trails and only the fourth to win three All-America honors. Ranks top-10 all-time for Oregon in the 1,500 (ninth) and just shy in the 3,000 (two seconds away) and 5,000 (10 seconds away). Fall 1999: Did not compete after using up harrier eligibility in 1998 fall season.
1998-1999: All-American. Shared Oregon athletic department's Jackson Award with teammate Kaarin Knudson as top Duck female athlete among the department's seven women's sports. Won first Pac-10 title on the track thanks to late surge in the 3,000 (9:38.88) at Tempe, Ariz., then doubled back next day for best-ever third-place finish in the 5,000 (16:42.35). Missed qualifying for NCAA final in 3,000 by less than three seconds and two places in opening section (eighth, 9:42.32) before collapsing at finish line. Tried to return two days later for NCAA 5,000 but again fought fatigue and altitude effects and finished 19th (17:55.19). During regular season, racked up two individual wins in the 3,000 (WSU dual and Pepsi Team Invite), and combined on winning 4x800 relay at the Hayward Relays (8:45.09) and 4x800 and distance medley relays at the Drake Relays (8:39.78/11:22.00). Ended season with Oregon's fastest season bests in the 3,000 and 5,000 and second-best in the 1,500. Also named to Pac-10 First Team All-Academic Team -- one of four Ducks picked. Honored by team with Mary Officer Award as the squad's highest-point scorer during the season. In cross country, repeated her ninth-place NCAA finish (17:06.6) from sophomore year, pushing the pace up front with one of the fastest collegiate finales in recent history, including all of the previous year's top-10 NCAA finishers. Of the 11 runners who beat her during the regular season, she beat eight of them at the NCAA finale. Posted top-five finishes at all six season meets prior to NCAA's, including the West Regional (fourth, 16:58) and Pac-10 meet (fifth, 17:31). Capped her career leading the team in 20 of the last 21 harrier meets dating back to the start of her sophomore season. Was honored with the team's MVP honor for the third straight season, while earning Pac-10 All-Academic First-Team Honors for her 3.34 GPA. 1997-1998: Two-time All-American. Won eight races during the regular season, before a foot injury hampered her at the Pac-10 and NCAA meets. Held on to finish fifth in a tactical NCAA 3,000 (9:25.74), running much of the last lap among the top three runners before being outkicked in the closing stretch. Posted runner-up finish in the 3,000 at the Pac-10 meet (9:33.25). During the regular season, she notched personal bests in the 1,500 at the Stanford Invite (sixth, 4:19.60); in the 5,000 at the Oregon Twilight (third, 16:20.47); and in the 5,000 at the Pepsi Team Invite (first, 16:26.14). Opened season only a second off her personal best in the 3,000, winning a rainy 3,000 at the Oregon Preview (9:20.0). Led team in dual meets against its Northwest rivals with wins in the 1,500 and 3,000 against Washington State (4:29.58/9:36.95) and Washington (4:24.48/9:34.00). Named an honorable mention to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team for her 3.24 GPA. 1996-97: Two-time All-American. Displayed amazing consistency in both track and cross country. In her NCAA return at 3,000 meters, ran PRs in both the qualifying round (9:21.96) and final (eighth, 9:18.98), also ranking as the top conference finisher. Capped season with sizable PRs in the 800 (three seconds), 1,500 (two seconds) and 3,000 (13 seconds). At the Pac-10 meet in Seattle, was one of three Duck double scorers thanks to PRs in both the 3,000 (fifth, 9:26.28) and her first 5,000 (seventh, 16:28.74), locking up NCAA bids in both.
