2001-02: Redshirted outdoor season, rehabbing quad muscle injury from February. Indoors, ranked among team leaders in heptathlon (5,608), long jump (first, 23-4), 60 (fourth, 7.21), 1,000 (first, 2:51.66), 60 hurdles (fourth, 8.45), and high jump (fifth, 6-3 1/4). Opened year with heptathlon win in Wisconsin Elite meet - ranking 41st in world at end of year and third among collegians (and second among returnees in 2003).

2000-01: NCAA Champion. Couldn't have scripted a more dramatic finish in the NCAA Championships thanks to an eight-second personal best in the 1,500 for an 18-point win (7,889). Going into the final event of his second NCAA decathlon, he made up a 70-point deficit to Georgia's David Lemen (7,160) and Tennessee's Stephen Harris (7,098), and now ranks third all-time for the Ducks with the top two marks - Pedro daSilva (8,167) and Muhammad Oliver (8,087) from the 1992 NCAA Championships. Won his first Pac-10 decathlon title (7,617) after runner-up finishes the prior two seasons, and scored for team the following week in the Pac-10 long jump (seventh, 23-0 3/4) and 400 hurdles (fifth, 52.19). Won Texas Relays decathlon title with then-personal best (7,726). Earned Pac-10 Athlete of the Week honors for the field and track event categories, respectively, after his Pac-10 and Texas Relays (then-PR 7,726) decathlon wins. On squad's season best list, he paced the team in the decathlon (7,889), long jump (23-9 indoors) and 400 (48.80), and ranked second in the 400 hurdles (52.06), third in the javelin (201-4), and fourth in the shot put (45-2 1/2) and pole vault (16-0 3/4). Competed in World University Games in Beijing, China in August (ninth, 7,565 points). At team awards banquet was honored with Harry Ritchie's Jewelers High Point Scorer Award and George Scharpf Outstanding Athlete Award. Joined teammate John Stiegeler on Verizon Spring At-Large Academic All-America Second Team, and Pac-10 All-Academic First Team. Indoors, won seven-event heptathlon in UNI Invitational in January (5,470). Scored sixth in long jump (23-0) in Mountain Pacific Championships, and at end of campaign, led squad in long jump (23-9), and ranked second in the 60 (7.23) and fourth in the pole vault (15-6). At end of year, was one of three track and field athletes nominated for Argentina's Olimpia Award as the country's top track and field athlete. Honored at season's end by University of Oregon athletic department with Doyle Higdon Trophy.

1999-2000: All-American. Renewed the Ducks' decathlon-rich tradition with a fifth-place NCAA finish (7,543). Initially raised personal best in a breezy Texas Relays (third, 7,580). Was team's most valuable contributor in Pac-10 Championships in Eugene with runner-up honors in decathlon (then-PR 7,649), and fourth-place finish in 400 hurdles off limited practice (51.70). Raced 400 hurdles only once before during season with win in Washington Dual (52.82). Claimed conference-qualifying mark in javelin (202-5) during Texas Relays decathlon. Besides leading team in decathlon and 400 hurdles, ranked second in 400 (48.16), third in 110 hurdles (15.12), javelin (202-5) and long jump (23-5 1/2), and fourth in pole vault (15-1). Regular season decathlon best ranked fifth among collegians.

1998-99: NCAA Provisional Qualifier. Made Duck decathlon debut with Pac-10 runner-up finish and NCAA provisional mark (7,150) - which ranked him 33rd among collegians in 1999 and second nationally in his freshman class. Competed in the Pan-American Games (fifth, 6,820) and led all South Americans. Later in August, again won the South American Championships (7,344).

Before Oregon: His pre-Oregon best (7,306 points) dated back to his second-place finish in the 1998 Ibero-American Championships in Lisbon, Portugal. Other top finishes came in the 1998 South American Championships in Cuenca, Ecuador (first, 6,990), 1997 Junior Pan-American Games in Havana, Cuba (second, 6,763), 1997 South American Championships (second, 6,550), and 1997 South American Junior Championships in Uruguay (second, 6,490). Among the Argentinian and South American rankings, he ranked first in both in 1999 and 1998. In 1997, he ranked first in Argentina and among the top three in South America, and first in Argentina in 1996. In his first decathlon earlier that season, he broke the South American junior record and has held it ever since. High School: Villa Devoto school.

Personal: Major: Exercise and Movement Science. Was initially steered towards Oregon by former BYU NCAA Champion Tito Steiner (1977-79-81).
