Another All-America Season!

Review Oregon's individual honors from the national scene in 1999-2000.

Aug. 8, 2000

The Ducks began the 1999-2000 athletic season riding the coattails of one of the nation's top running backs, Reuben Droughns, en route to a runner-up Pac-10 finish and bowl win. In the winter, the Duck hoopsters again made the NCAA big dance en route to +20 win seasons, while seven spring sports followed with NCAA trips.

When the season was all over, 14 of the 16 Duck programs had advanced to the postseason, adding their share of Pac-10 titles and All-America honors along the way. And in the final Sears Directors' Cup standings, the Ducks were one of eight teams in the top 30 with their 29th-place ranking.

On the individual front, the hardware count was just as impressive -- 13 Ducks combined for 14 All-America honors. Also on the oval, four current Ducks earned U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials bids (Jason Boness, Steve Fein, Karis Howell, Niki Reed); another finished fourth among U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers in his weight class at the Olympic Trials (Chael Sonnen-187 lbs.); two women's hoopsters (Shaquala Williams and Jenny Mowe) were part of the USA Women's Basketball Development Camp, and two gridiron stars -- Reuben Droughns and Peter Sirmon -- were selected in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft.
