Ethan Flatt To Bypass Senior Season At Ole Miss For Graduation, Possible Law School

Dec. 10, 2005

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss quarterback Ethan Flatt of Nashville, Tenn., will not return for his 2006 senior year of eligibility, it was announced here Saturday by head coach Ed Orgeron.

"Ethan informed me that he will graduate in May and plans to attend law school," Orgeron said. "We appreciate the contributions Ethan made during his football career at Ole Miss and wish him the very best. He will be successful in whatever he chooses to do."

"I have decided to graduate from the University of Mississippi with a degree in Business Management this May, and will not be returning to play football next fall," Flatt said. "This decision comes after careful consideration and support from my family, friends and coaches. It is true that my career goals played an important role in this decision. I am preparing to seek entrance into law school in the fall of 2007 and will pursue internship opportunities in the upcoming year.

"I love Ole Miss, and I have appreciated the opportunity to represent this University on the football field. There are so many great people here and I wish the program success in the future. I will always be a supporter of the Ole Miss Rebels."

Flatt enrolled at Ole Miss in 2002, but did not see any action and was redshirted. He and Micheal Spurlock backed up Eli Manning during the 2003 season as he played in games against Louisiana-Monroe and Arkansas State.

As a sophomore in 2004, Flatt played in 10 games and drew the starting nod nine times. He completed 123 of 220 passes for 1,530 yards and six touchdowns, with 10 interceptions, and was selected Quarterback Club Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Alabama.

His 2005 junior campaign saw him play in four games, starting the final three, as he connected on 46 of his 79 pass attempts for 511 yards and two TDs, with five interceptions. Flatt earned Quarterback Club Offensive Player of the Week after completing 11 of 17 passes for 81 yards at Auburn, and had a career-high 309 yards on 20-of-37 passing and one TD this season against Arkansas.

Flatt participated in 16 games during his career at Ole Miss, starting 12 times while earning two letters, as he completed 169 of 299 passes for 2,041 yards and eight touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

One of his biggest plays came in 2004 at South Carolina when he hooked up with wide receiver Bill Flowers on a 29-yard TD pass on fourth-and-10 with 1:05 remaining for the go ahead TD in a 31-28 win over the No. 25 Gamecocks.

Flatt has also excelled in the classroom during his time at Ole Miss. He has been a regular on the Chancellor's Honor Roll, Dean's Honor Roll, U.M.A.A. Honor Roll, and the Southeastern Conference Honor Roll. As a true freshman in 2002, he received the Scholar-Athlete Award from the Ole Miss Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
