NORFOLK, VA -- The #17 Old Dominion women's lacrosse team fell to 3-2 on the season as James Madison came from behind to take a 9-8 victory on Foreman Field this afternoon. Sophomore Suzanne Wosczyna (Phoneixville, VA) led the Lady Monarchs with three goals and three assists.

Although James Madison got onto the scoreboard first with a goal by McNevin Molloy just over a minute and half into play, the Lady Monarchs quickly established a four goal lead, 5-1, by exploding for five unanswered goals. Wosczyna tied the game just moments later with 26:33 on the clock and then junior Danielle Hensil (Havertown, PA) gave Old Dominion a 2-1 lead less than a minute later. Despite being ahead in the score following another Wosczyna tally and two goals by senior Jennifer Heister (Fayetteville, NY), the Dukes kept the Lady Monarchs scoreless over the final ten minutes and closed the gap to within one, 5-4, at the half.

Wosczyna responded immediately just moments into the second stanza with her third and final goal of the day, but the Dukes proceeded to make a come back. Following the Lady Monarch goal, James Madison ignited for five unanswered goals. Lisa Staedt, who led the Dukes on the afternoon with three goals, tied the game with 18:48 remaining at 6-6 and Kristen Dinisio used an unassisted net to put James Madison up for good. The Lady Monarchs kept the Dukes from scoring the rest of the way and fired off two goals to pull within one. Junior Marlaine Smith (Gaithersburg, MD) pulled Old Dominion with one, but the pressure from the Duke defense held as Old Dominion was unable to put away the game-tying goal as time ticked off the clock.

Wosczyna led all scorers with six points, while two goals from Heister along with tallies by sophomore Janine Rodriguez (Davidsonville, MD), Hensil, and Smith comprised the rest of the Old Dominion score. The Dukes were led by Staedt with four goals while Molloy added two in the James Madison victory.

In net, sophomore keeper Beth O'Leary (Manilus, NY) made 12 saves, while James Madison goalie, Amy Altig, made eight stops.

The Lady Monarchs return to action this weekend when they host Temple on Saturday and Hofstra in CAA action on Sunday.
