NORFOLK, Va. -- The sixth-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team (6-4) returns to action in two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) games this week. The Lady Monarchs host #17 James Madison on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and then travel to Towson on Sunday.

* After going 1-1 in the first four weeks of the season, Old Dominion captured its first weekend sweep posting victories over then-16th ranked Richmond and Drexel. Last weekend.
* The Lady Monarchs enter this weekend's contests riding a three-game win streak.
* Old Dominion opened CAA play last week with its 7-0 shutout victory over the Drexel Dragons. The shutout marked the third of the season and while the Lady Monarchs also tied their season-high in goals scored. Old Dominion also notched seven goals in their 7-0 victory over Miami (Oh).
* Freshman Katelyn Smither became the first Lady Monarch to record a hat trick in the 2005 season. Smither, who was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for her efforts, tallied three goals as one of five Lady Monarchs scoring in last Sunday's 7-0 route of the Dragons.
* Last week, the Lady Monarchs outscored their opponents 12-2, outshot their opponents, 46-11, and outcornered them, 22-4. Old Dominion's balanced scoring attack helped the team jump into fifth in scoring offense (3.42) in the nation.
* Old Dominion continues CAA play through its next four games hosting #16 James Madison on Friday night and traveling to Towson on Sunday. Next Friday, the Lady Monarchs host Virginia Commonwealth and next Sunday they take on Delaware, the 2004 CAA Champions, before taking on their next non-conference opponent in Maryland.
* In the latest national stats released, several Lady Monarchs are included. Senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) and junior Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) are now seen on the national points leaders list. Engle ranks 10th in total points scored (20) and tied for 16th in points per game (2.0), while Sensenig is tied in the 11th spot in total points (19) and tied for 18th in points per contest (1.90). Additionally, Engle is tied for eighth in goals scored with eight. Junior Caroline Nichols (Va. Beach, Va.), who has been ranked in the assists category all season, jumped up to third in total assists (9) and sixth in assists per game (0.90).

Old Dominion vs. James Madison All-Time: 43-6

* Friday will mark the CAA opener for the Dukes. James Madison is the only team in the CAA still waiting to play a league opponent.
* The Dukes have not defeated Old Dominion in their last 16 attempts and earned their last win in 1995. That season, James Madison captured the CAA title.
* James Madison has already seen three overtime games this season. The Dukes have taken #3 North Carolina, #6 Michigan State, and #5 Duke into extra time.
* James Madison currently leads the CAA in goals allowed. The Duke defense is allowing only an average of 1.22 goals per contest.
* The Dukes and Old Dominion have shared four common opponents so far. Both James Madison and the Lady Monarchs fell to North Carolina by a score of 1-0. Old Dominion dominated Virginia, 4-0, while the Dukes fell 4-3 in overtime. James Madison edged out Richmond by a goal, 1-0, while Old Dominion earned a 5-2 victory over the Spiders. Additionally, James Madison fell 1-2 to Duke, while the Lady Monarchs took home a 5-3 victory.
* On the stat sheet junior midfielder Baille Versefeld leads her team in scoring with 14 points. She has accumulated six goals and two assists. She is tied for eighth in the CAA in points per game. Rookie forward Ashley Walls enters the game as the Dukes' second leading scorer with 12 points from four goals and four assists. Walls also leads the team with two game-winners.
* Senior goalkeeper Lori Amico is ninth in the country in goals-against average (1.116) and is second in the CAA in that category. She is also holding a .743 save percentage. Amico made a season-high 10 saves in their 1-2 loss to Duke in their last outing.

* The Tigers were off to their best start in program history, winning the first five games of the 2005 season. However, Towson has dropped four of their last five contests.
* Towson welcomed Northeastern to the CAA in their last contest. The Tigers fell 1-3 to give the Huskies their first win in their new conference.
* Senior forward/midfielder Emily Swartz leads the Tigers with 15 points. She has recorded four goals and seven assists to date. Swartz is currently tied for ninth in the conference in points per game. Sophomore forward/midfielder Kajee Murangi, who did not play against Northeastern after sustaining an injury in the Tigers' loss to Georgetown, is the Tigers' second leading scorer. She has 12 points from five goals and two assists.
* Junior Christina Armer will be the last line of defense for Towson. She is holding 1.71 goals against average and a .793 save percentage. Nationally, she ranked 16th in goals against average and 12th in save percentage.
