Field Hockey At No. 14 In STX/NFHCA Poll; Improve To No. 10 In Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll
Sept. 18, 2007
NORFOLK, Va. -- The Old Dominion field hockey team fell back a spot in the STX/NFHCA Coaches Poll to No. 14 while moving up three notches to No. 10 in the Women's Field Hockey.com Poll. The Lady Monarchs are coming off a 1-1 weekend with a 3-0 loss to top-ranked North Carolina and a 1-0 shutout over Duke. Old Dominion holds a 2-5 overall mark heading into this weekend's games against Radford and Northeastern. This weekend will mark the first opponents of 2007 that have not been either ranked or receiving votes in either poll. In the STX/NFHCA Poll, the Tar Heels still take the top position followed closely by Maryland. Past Old Dominion opponents Connecticut and Penn State are still among the top 10 with the Huskies falling to No. 4 after their first loss of the season and the Lady Lions holding at No. 7. Aside from Old Dominion, four other CAA teams are featured in the poll. James Madison is also in the top ten. The Dukes, who cracked the poll's top ten last week, remain at No. 8 with a 5-2 overall mark. Delaware continue to be ranked. The Blue Hens fell back three places to No. 17 as they suffered their first loss of the year with a loss to 2-1 loss to St. Joseph's to snap a seven-game win streak. Both William & Mary and Drexel are receiving votes. In the Women's Field Hockey.Com Poll, Maryland still remains the No. 1 team in that list followed by North Carolina at No. 2. Past opponents Connecticut, Penn State, and Michigan also comprise members of the top ten with the Huskies at No. 4, Lady Lions at No.7, and Wolverines at No. 9. James Madison fell out of the top ten to No. 12, while Delaware slipped to No. 20.
The Old Dominion field hockey team is returning home for a two-game homestand this weekend after playing the last four games away from the friendly confines of Foreman Field. The Lady Monarchs host Radford on Saturday, September 22nd and then open up Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action on Sunday, September 23rd. Both games begin at 1:00 p.m. at Foreman Field and admission is free.
