Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Freshman Denise Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) scored three minutes into Sunday's regular season finale followed by junior Dana Sensenig (Denver, Pa.) with the game-winner a mere four minutes later as the seventh-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team closed out the regular season with a 4-1 victory over William and Mary.

W&M drops to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the loss, while the Lady Monarchs improve to 15-5 and captured a perfect 8-0 CAA regular season mark.

Admiraal's goal came on a penalty corner just 3:37 into the game as senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) fired the ball on to the left side of the cage with Admiraal awaiting to deflect it into the upper right corner. Four minutes later Sensenig struck as she raced towards the Tribe net to put ODU ahead, 2-0, and score what would be the eventual game-winner.

The Tribe got one of the goals back in the 12th minute of the game, when senior midfielder Shannon Karl tipped a pass to junior forward Gina Cimarelli.

The second half saw the Lady Monarch up their lead with two unanswered goals. Senior Janelle Engle (Mt. Joy, Pa.) converted a penalty stroke opportunity in the 41st minute followed by sophomore Daphne Admiraal (Heiloo, Holland) four minutes later on a penalty corner.

ODU out-shot W&M, 20-4 in the game and held a 10-0 advantage in penalty corners. W&M sophomore goalkeeper Gwen Hunter made seven saves in the game, while ODU¹s Mary Cate Gordon (Oreland, Pa.) stopped one shot.

The Lady Monarchs return to the turf at the 2005 CAA Tournament, hosted by Old Dominion at Foreman Field. The Lady Monarchs receive a quarterfinals bye on Friday and await the winner of No. 4 James Madison and No. 5 William & Mary in the semifinals on Saturday.
